White House Asks for Large Weapons Package for Israel, Ukraine

National security advisor says administration will ask for well over $2 billion.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday that President Joe Biden will urge Congress this week to pass an extensive weapons package for Israel and Ukraine.

The president believes in the continued defense of Ukraine against Russia, but some members of Congress have dissented from additional support for Ukraine. The White House would like legislators to pass one large weapons package for both Israel and Ukraine would offer present and future support for both countries instead of smaller, more frequent weapons packages.

Asked whether the request would be for $2 billion, as has been previously reported, Advisor Sullivan said, “The number is going to be significantly higher than that, but it will, as I said, certainly include the necessary military equipment to defend freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in Ukraine, and to help Israel defend itself as it fights its terrorist threat.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Advisor Sullivan as he provides recommendations to the president.
  • For members of Congress as they consider the administration’s desires for additional aid to Ukraine in concert with assistance for Israel.
